Detective visits school to give forensic masterclass
This week Detective Cowan came in to visit Class Six to discuss the extensive forensic work that goes into police casework in the modern day. He walked the children through example cases, demonstrating the use of the DNA in supporting statements for victims and suspects. Feedback from the children pointed out that “It was a really interesting hour”, during which all the children asked some extremely probing questions and showed a great knowledge of modern science.
Some students also got the chance to have their fingerprints taken using official fingerprint kits and sheets. The rest will get the opportunity at some point during the week to add their own fingerprint to their unique ID labels on their topic books.
Overall, this was a great opportunity to see how modern day policing works and the class would like to thank Detective Cowan for sparing his valuable time in between cases.
