Year 5/6 African workshop

Today, year 5/6 had the fantastic experience of painting a African mask, based on the dan tribe from the Ivory Coast.

The mask can be worn as a helmet or crest.

We used a dowel tool to create the dot work.

We chose our colours carefully, considering their spiritual significance. White represents spirit, red represents blood and war, green represents earth, blue represents innocence and gold represents fortune.

The hand carved masks were made from albesia wood, the fastest growing tree in the world.

We had so much fun.
