Art & Design
At St Chad's Church of England Primary, Art & Design helps children explore creativity, develop practical skills and express ideas with confidence. Through a wide range of age-appropriate activities, pupils learn how to use colour, shape and texture effectively, while also discovering different artists, cultures and design traditions. We encourage children to try, experiment and reflect on their work, so that every piece shows both effort and imagination.
Our lessons support learning across the curriculum by linking art and design to topics in literacy, history and science. Children practise techniques such as drawing, painting, collage, printing and model-making, and they learn the importance of careful planning and respectful presentation. Parents can support at home by encouraging sketching, discussing ideas and celebrating progress, helping children to build a lifelong appreciation of the visual arts.
