Maths

At St Chad's Church of England Primary, Mathematics is a creative and collaborative subject that helps children make sense of the world around them. Through rich mathematical investigations, practical activities and real-life contexts, pupils are encouraged to explore, question, reason and problem-solve with confidence. We believe that every child can succeed in mathematics and develop the skills needed to become lifelong learners.

We engage children in mathematics through a mastery approach, where children build their knowledge step by step, making connections and deepening their understanding of mathematical concepts over time. Lessons provide both challenge and support, enabling pupils to think critically, explain their reasoning and develop resilience when faced with new learning. Preparing children to thrive at secondary school, and beyond, is of great importance to us.

Parents and carers play an important role in supporting mathematical learning beyond the classroom. Developing fluency and rapid recall of number facts, including times tables up to 12 × 12, helps children access the full curriculum with confidence. Practical experiences such as shopping, baking, budgeting and time management provide valuable opportunities to apply skills in everyday life and helps children appreciate the importance and relevance of mathematics in the wider world. We hope you enjoy maths as much as we do!
